The soil that we farm in has been depleted over the years. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to soil depletion, there are several factors that can contribute to our deficiency. Pharmaceutical drugs are a huge factor. What we consume on a daily basis from caffeine to sugar and alcohol can deplete our stores of magnesium. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking the wrong ratio of Calcium to Magnesium in supplement form can actually cause more harm than good, according to doctors, the ratio should be 1:1. (6)<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>How to Know if You Are Magnesium Deficient<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early signs of deficiency may include headaches, nausea, and vomiting, fatigue, or weakness. More chronic deficiency can lead to far more serious symptoms such as:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you've recently had a blood test, you might assume it would show a magnesium deficiency. But only 1 percent of magnesium in your body is distributed in your blood, making a simple sample of magnesium from a serum magnesium blood test not very useful.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most magnesium is stored in your bones and organs, where it is used for many biological functions. However,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span>, unless you're taking magnesium supplementation, you're most likely deficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to clinical research, sublingual epithelial cell magnesium testing is the most accurate, painless way to check your levels. An RBC blood test will measure magnesium in the red blood cells and is more accurate than most tests.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although, the easiest and least expensive way to know is just to pay attention to your body! <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One way I know I have a lack of magnesium is that I start getting a muscle twitch, or sometimes if it\u2019s bad, I get muscle cramps. When someone is deficient in magnesium, muscle-related issues such as cramping, twitching and facial tics to chronic insomnia start. Diarrhea can be a side effect of too much magnesium.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Ways to Correct a Magnesium Deficiency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The health benefits of eating magnesium-rich foods such as leafy greens will contribute to your overall wellness. However, if you have any issues with absorption, you may struggle to get enough through food alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to supplementation, I try to drink green juice when I have time to make it. If you don\u2019t enjoy baths, you can get the same benefit by soaking your feet in an Epsom salt bath. That is because Epsom salt is a form of magnesium that is easily absorbed through the skin. When you take an Epsom salt bath, you may feel relaxed and sleepy afterward.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One way you can get more is by drinking green juice. &nbsp;Focus on leafy greens. When I make juice I no longer add fruit to it at all. However, if you are just starting out you might want to add a small piece of fruit or otherwise a pinch of stevia to make it more palatable.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Foods that contain or improve magnesium absorption:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/garlicky-sauteed-spinach-mushrooms\/\">Dark leafy greens<\/a><\/li><li>Pumpkin Seeds<\/li><li>Cashews<\/li><li>Whole Grains such as Brown Rice or Oatmeal<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though I eat magnesium rich foods and do Epsom salt soaks, I still supplement with magnesium. &nbsp;Magnesium is quite safe so you don't have to worry about taking too much.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for magnesium&nbsp;ranges from 310 to 420 mg per day, depending on your age and sex. However, some researchers believe we may need anywhere from 600 to 900 mg\/day for optimal health.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> When it comes to magnesium the nutrients calcium, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vitamin D, and K2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also come into play. These four nutrients work together synergistically, with one supporting the other.
