Age, health problems, and environment can also be a factor in nutrient deficiencies. Using supplements is a good way to fill in those gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One way I do monitor the nutrient levels in my daily diet is by using the Gold version of <a href=\"http:\/\/shareasale.com\/r.cfm?b=766203&u=1060429&m=61121&urllink=&afftrack=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">Cronometer<\/a>. Even the free version can help you see gaps in your diet. Try it for a week or two and you'll get a good idea of how balanced your diet may or may not be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here are six supplements I consider my daily &#8220;must-haves&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>EPA\/DHA<\/strong> &#8211; if you follow a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/ketogenic-lifestyle-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">ketogenic diet<\/a> did you know that adding in EPA\/DHA will significantly boost your weight loss efforts. My doctor recommended an EPA\/DHA supplement for both my husband and myself.<\/li><li><strong>Iron<\/strong> &#8211; for many women, myself included, iron is an absolute must. During pregnancy it is important not to become anemic but also during other phases of life.&nbsp;If you have ever experienced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/iron-deficiency-anemia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">low ferritin levels<\/a>, you will know exactly why. Iron deficiency can kick your feet out from under you and leave you breathless, or in extreme cases, it can lead to a heart attack. Don't let this go unchecked, monitor your levels so you don't end up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/iron-infusions-for-treating-iron-deficiency-anemia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">needing an iron infusion<\/a>!<\/li><li><strong>Probiotics<\/strong> &#8211; gut health is important for more than just digestion. The gut is part of our immune system, so it's vital that we keep the flora balanced. Yogurt is not the only way to get probiotics and most people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/powerful-truth-probiotics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">choose brands that have little or no probiotics<\/a> and are full of sugar. While I try to eat plenty of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/eat-fermented-foods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">fermented foods<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/habit-16-add-probiotics-and-prebiotics-for-a-healthy-gut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">probiotics and prebiotics<\/a>, I choose to supplement as well. Make sure to read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/powerful-truth-probiotics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">powerful truth about probiotics<\/a>.<\/li><li><strong>Vitamin D3\/K2<\/strong> &#8211; without it, I feel quite depressed, yes, it can be obtained from sunlight and no, I don't' spend enough time in the sun. Always take vitamin D in the early part of the day as it may disrupt your sleep when taken at night. As mentioned in &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/depression-vitamin-d-deficiency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">depression could be a vitamin d deficiency<\/a>&#8221; I shared more about the brands we use.<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jdoqocy.com\/click-7743544-10436184?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lifeextension.com%2Fnewshop%2Fitems%2Fitem01923.html%3Futm_source%3Dcj.com%26utm_medium%3Daffiliate%26utm_term%3D01923%26utm_content%3Dcatalog%26utm_campaign%3DProducts&cjsku=01923\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">Astaxanthin<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; As far as antioxidants go you can't do much better than astaxanthin. This nutrient works best when taken with healthy fats so I take it in the morning with my EPA\/DHA and Vitamin D\/K2 combo. As far as I'm concerned, this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/mystery-nutrient-gives-athletes-an-advantage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">mystery nutrient<\/a> does not get the attention it deserves.<\/li><li><strong>NonGMO Vitamin C<\/strong> (preferably a blend containing Rutin, ascorbic acid) &#8211; Vitamin C is water soluble, meaning what your body doesn't use within a few hours, it discards. That is why I take vitamin c both at night and in the morning. &nbsp;During times when germs are everywhere I drink it throughout the day as well. Putting vitamin c in my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/electrolyte-energy-drink\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">electrolyte drink<\/a> throughout the winter also helps keep my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/how-i-keep-my-kids-in-superior-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">immune system in superior condition<\/a>! Sometimes I make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/valentines-day-vitamin-c-gummy-hearts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">gummies out of vitamin C powder<\/a>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tqlkg.com\/image-7743544-10436184\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\"\/>In my post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/depression-vitamin-d-deficiency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">Vitamin D and depression<\/a>, I mentioned the importance of having your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/click-7743544-10436184?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lifeextension.com%2Fnewshop%2Fitems%2FitemLC081950.html%3Futm_source%3Dcj.com%26utm_medium%3Daffiliate%26utm_term%3DLC081950%26utm_content%3Dcatalog%26utm_campaign%3DProducts&cjsku=LC081950\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">vitamin D levels tested<\/a> at least yearly. Testing is particularly important for those who are susceptible to seasonal affective disorder, otherwise known as the winter blues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other supplements I may take throughout the year<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When I have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/l-theanine-useful-for-anxiety-and-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">anxiety I rely on L-Theanine<\/a> to calm my nerves and just help me cope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another supplement I sometimes take when I can't drink bone broth is <strong>Collagen<\/strong>. I keep a <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2hESQEb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">Collagen supplement<\/a> in the form of powdered&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/habit-17-add-cup-collagen-rich-bone-broth-daily\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">collagen<\/a> in my pantry for adding to smoothies and beverages. My mom and I both have used this supplement for several years to keep our joints from squeaking \ud83d\ude09 It is also great for your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/toxin-free-way-to-grow-hair-long-and-strong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">hair<\/a>, skin and nails. We keep this on &#8220;subscribe and save&#8221; on my Amazon Prime account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of my supplements come from my doctor's office, but I also use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jdoqocy.com\/click-7743544-10495252\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">Life Extension<\/a> as a trusted brand for my family. Normally, I do a bit of research into a company before I purchase vitamins from them. Whole food and natural ingredients are preferable over synthetic vitamins which may do more harm than good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At times I have added in a large number of supplements to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/chronic-illness-linked-mono\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">treat specific conditions, such as EBV<\/a>. Later, I'll share the protocol I am using for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatorganicmom.com\/mold-illness-lyme-disease\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">treating Lyme Disease and Mold illness<\/a>. These are protocols that were prescribed by my own physician. Always check with your own health care provider before adding a supplement as some can have interactions with other medications you may be taking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look for &#8220;food source&#8221; on the bottle. Also, the letters &#8220;dl&#8221; indicates a synthetic vitamin when looking at the list on the back of the bottle. You'll often see this in the forms of Vitamin E. Words that end in &#8220;ide&#8221; or &#8220;ate&#8221; suggest that the product contains synthetics.\u00a0When in doubt, ask! A pharmacist should know how to identify synthetic vs. natural. Shop from trusted companies and avoid buying grocery store brands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One final word about supplements, always take them according to directions on the bottle or as directed by your health care provider.
